Armed police, dogs and vans respond after man steals skewers from takeaway

Residents in Plymouth were left alarmed on Saturday night as armed police, a dog unit and numerous vans descended on Stonehouse.

The response saw two armed response vehicles, a dog unit, two police vans and a patrol car swoop on King Street shortly after 11pm, following a report that a man had stolen skewers from a late night takeaway.

While no arrests were made, police have since confirmed that the skewers were recovered and safely returned to their rightful owner. A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police told Plymouth Plus:

"We were called to the King Street area of Plymouth, shortly after 11pm on Saturday 20 September following a report of a disturbance.
"It was reported a man stole skewers from a late night takeaway and left the scene.
"Armed officers attended and confirmed that the skewers had been located and returned to the takeaway.
"No suspect was located."

The mystery skewer thief remains at large. The sticks are back behind the counter, the kebabs are safe, and Plymouth’s late night takeaway scene can rest easy until the next unusual callout.
