A man has been rushed to hospital after reportedly being 'stabbed in the ribs' on Mildmay Street in Plymouth this afternoon.
Armed officers rushed to the scene and a large number of police vehicles were seen in the area while the casualty was treated.
Critical care paramedics from the Devon Air Ambulance were called in alongside South Western Ambulance Service crews to give advanced treatment before the man was taken to Derriford Hospital.
His current condition has not yet been confirmed.
Police officers were seen going door to door on Mildmay Street and in nearby roads as they tried to piece together what happened.
Armed officers searched the street and surrounding areas in an effort to locate potential suspects.
At this stage the police have not confirmed whether anyone has been arrested or if they are still attempting to locate anyone in connection with this incident.
Detectives arrived at the scene a short time later and took over the investigation.
Devon and Cornwall Police has been contacted for comment this evening but has been unavailable.
