A Coastguard rescue helicopter was deployed on Monday evening to evacuate a passenger from the Brittany Ferries vessel Armorique following a medical emergency off the coast of Plymouth.

The AgustaWestland AW189, operated by HM Coastguard, was scrambled from St Athan and flew to the ferry, which was approaching Plymouth Sound on its scheduled route from Roscoff, France to Plymouth, Devon.

After circling the vessel, the helicopter airlifted the unwell passenger and flew to RM Bickleigh, where it landed. Ambulance crews arrived shortly after landing and took the patient to Derriford Hospital for further medical treatment.

The Armorique continued its journey and docked safely in Plymouth later that evening with the remainder of its passengers and crew.
