A community radio station has launched a brand new writing competition inviting young people to imagine what the city will look like in the future.

The children’s short story competition is now open in two age categories with word limits to match.

One category is for children aged 11 and under with stories up to 600 words. The second category is for ages 12 to 16 with stories up to 1,000 words.

Ferndale Community Radio, known as FCR, is a independent community radio station run by volunteers in Weston Mill.

Entries will be judged by Plymouth Laureate of Words RC Thomas and FCR Radio presenter Mimi.

Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place winners in each age category, with prizes sponsored by Clarion Futures alongside FCR Radio.

The deadline for entries is 12pm on Saturday, 28 February 2026.

Young writers and parents can find the full guidelines and enter the competition via the FCR Radio website here.
