Plymouth City Council has responded after a flag was removed from one of its flagpoles outside the Guildhall.

The "Plymouth Flag Force" branded flag was placed on a council owned flagpole which normally flies the St George’s flag.

A council employee was later sent out from the Council House to remove the unauthorised flag.

A spokesperson for Plymouth City Council said:

"Plymouth City Council can confirm that an unauthorised flag was recently placed on a Council owned flagpole. The flagpole, which ordinarily flies the St George’s flag, was accessed without permission.
“The Council’s recently approved flag policy is very clear about which flags may be displayed on Council owned flagpoles and any other flags are not permitted without Planning permission and authorisation from the property owner. We are currently reviewing our CCTV.
“Residents are reminded that climbing a flagpole or lamp post to install flags is extremely dangerous – both for the individual involved and for anyone passing beneath at the time. It also risks damaging the flagpole or lamp post and could compromise its safe future use.”
