Dog rescued as smoke pours from Barbican flat in late night Plymouth fire

A dog was rescued from a flat fire in Plymouth on Friday evening, 15 January.

Emergency services were sent to Friars Lane on the Barbican at around 9pm, with Southside Street closed while firefighters extinguished the fire.

Paramedics and police are also in attendance. A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service told Plymouth Plus:

"At approximately 9pm on Friday 16 January, crews were called to reports of an alarm sounding and smoke issuing from a flat on Friars Lane.
"Four fire appliances attended the incident, which involved a kitchen fire in a first-floor flat within a five-storey residential block. A dog was safely rescued, and there were no reported injuries.
"Firefighters used two hose reel jets, one safety jet, and ventilation fans to extinguish the fire and clear smoke from the property. We left the scene at around 10pm."
