Emergency services responded to incident on Plymouth Barbican during Pirates Weekend

Emergency services responded to an incident on the Plymouth Barbican on Sunday afternoon, during the city’s busy Pirates Weekend event.

Eyewitnesses reported the presence of at least five police cars, a police van, an ambulance, and several HM Coastguard vehicles rushing to the area with blue lights.

The Plymouth Barbican, a historic and popular waterfront area, was particularly busy at the time due to the Pirates Weekend celebrations.

Photos submitted to Plymouth Plus showed an ambulance at the scene, and multiple emergency service teams remained in the area for some time while the incident unfolded.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard later confirmed to Plymouth Plus:

“HM Coastguard assisted South Western Ambulance Service with a medical incident this afternoon (18 May) in the Barbican area, Plymouth.
"Alerted at around 12.15pm, Plymouth Coastguard Rescue Team was sent to the scene.
"A casualty was transferred into the care of the ambulance service.”
