An epic Valentine’s Day video celebrating the best of the Barbican has been produced encouraging people to support local independent businesses.
Videographer Ashley Moran was approached by Carly Laughton from Jacka Bakery, who wanted to create a promotional film bringing together a wide range of local businesses.
Ashley’s challenge was to create a clear narrative capable of featuring around 20 traders while telling a compelling story within a short running time.
The videos follows a light hearted love story set on the Barbican, where a young couple meet and fall in love after discovering a shared interest in a dog ornament.
The unusual item becomes a central theme throughout the video, highlighting a range of quirky and distinctive gifts available from independent retailers.

Featuring popular Plymouth foodie Curly Gaz, who appears as Cupid guiding the couple’s journey as their romance unfolds across the Barbican.
It's hoped the campaign will remind shoppers of the importance of supporting independent businesses, particularly during seasonal events, when spending locally can help sustain small companies and strengthen the city’s economy.
