A woman wielding a hammer has been arrested after assaulting a police officer at a flat in Plymouth today.
Devon and Cornwall Police were called to reports of a woman 'in distress' at an address in Langham Place, in the Prince Rock area, at around 11.45am this morning (Friday).
It's understood a letting agent had called 999 after hearing a woman "screaming and shouting" inside a property.

He told Plymouth Plus that he was concerned for her welfare, adding that she sounded like a "woman possessed".
When officers arrived, they forced entry into the flat - where they found the woman armed with a hammer.
After they gained gained access, the woman is said to have become even more agitated - shouting: "Help, they're blocking my door, they wont leave me alone".

Officers eventually managed arrest the suspect, putting her in handcuffs and escorting her from the building. She was held against the door of a police car as they awaited a police van to take her to custody.
"Help... they're arresting me for affray", the woman shouted as she was put into the van's cage.

A police officer was assaulted during the incident, but didn't suffer any injuries.
In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that a woman, aged in her 40s, was arrested on suspicion of affray and assault on emergency worker.
According to local residents, the lady has suffered with mental health issues for many years.

At the height of the incident, there were two police cars and a van on scene.
