Heartfelt scenes unfolded on Plymouth Hoe this evening as family, friends and colleagues gathered to remember Claire Chick on the eve of the first anniversary since her death.
People came together tonight, walking in silence across the Hoe and pausing to reflect on her life and the impact she had on so many people.
The candlelit vigil was organised by Claire’s partner at the time, Paul Maxwell, alongside her family and friends.
Tomorrow will mark one year since Claire, 48, was attacked on West Hoe Road on 22 January 2025.
Claire was found seriously injured and sadly later died in hospital. Her estranged husband, Paul Butler, admitted stabbing her to death and was jailed for life with a minimum term of 27 years.
Alongside the vigil, a fundraising campaign set up in Claire’s memory has now raised more than £6,000, reaching over 30% of its £20,000 target.
The Claire Chick Nursing Fund, established by the University of Plymouth, aims to support student nurses facing hardship. You can donate to the fund here.
