# Here's why a helicopter landed in Plymouth early this morning

Many locals contacted Plymouth Plus after being woken up by a helicopter circling low over Keyham and shining a light this morning.

The air ambulance landed in St Levan Park at 1 am as part of an emergency response to a 'medical incident' nearby.

The landing was essential so that flying medics from the [Devon Air Ambulance](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/devon-air-ambulance/) could provide the best care possible for a critically unwell patient.

Two land ambulances and an operational officer were also sent to the scene by the [South Western Ambulance Service](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/south-western-ambulance-service/).

The patient was conveyed to [Derriford Hospital](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/derriford-hospital/) by land ambulance, and the air ambulance took off and returned to its base at around 1.40 am.
