A driving safety operation has been ongoing in Plymouth today.

It comes after dozens of police officers were spotted at both the Plymouth and Torpoint sides of the Torpoint Ferry slipway.

Devon and Cornwall Police have been working alongside the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.

The objective of the operation was to target dangerous driving, illegal mobile phone use, and other offences.

Despite being on the water, the ferry is still treated as part of the public highway, so normal driving laws continue to apply when you are on it.

This means you cannot use a mobile phone while you are in control of a vehicle on the ferry.

Officers used the ferry’s control towers to scope out any illegal activity and deal with offending motorists accordingly.
