# Here’s why the police helicopter was up over Plymouth

The police helicopter was deployed as part of efforts to locate a high risk missing person in Plymouth tonight. 

Local units alongside a dog unit were also deployed as part of the search efforts in the [St Budeaux](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/st-budeaux/) area of Plymouth.

Despite inaccurate reporting elsewhere, only one police helicopter was deployed to this incident.

A spokesperson for [Devon and Cornwall Police](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/devon-and-cornwall-police/) told Plymouth Plus:

> "The force helicopter was deployed as part of efforts to locate a missing person. 

> "The person was located and taken into the care of healthcare professionals."

According to a local resident, four police vehicles were in the area for at least a couple of hours before a police helicopter was seen hovering low overhead.
