Hero emergency services save woman from Plymouth bridge

Hero emergency crews sprang into action during a dramatic late-night incident on Crownhill Road, Plymouth, where a woman was seen in distress on a bridge.

Police were called to the scene at 10.50pm on Monday, 13 May, following a report of concern for the welfare of a female on the overbridge. Members of the public bravely engaged with her until emergency services arrived.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service deployed an aerial ladder platform to reach the woman from the opposite side of the bridge.

She was brought to safety at approximately 11.30pm and immediately handed into the care of the ambulance service.

Crownhill Road and Tavistock Road were temporarily closed while the rescue took place and have since reopened.
