A hero member of the public saved a woman on a Plymouth bridge in a late-night rescue that closed the A38 near Honicknowle Lane.
Emergency services briefly closed the A38 westbound in Plymouth after a member of the public went to the aid of a woman on a bridge near Honicknowle Lane.
Police, ambulance and fire crews attended, and the woman, in her 40s, was thankfully safely brought back from the railings. The A38 reopened by 10.10pm and traffic returned to normal soon afterwards.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police told Plymouth Plus:
"Police were called at 9.35pm on Monday 11 August following concern for the welfare of a woman on a bridge in Honicknowle Lane, Plymouth.
"The woman was reportedly on the wrong side of the railings on the bridge over the A38.
"A member of the public had gone to the woman’s aid.
"Police, ambulance and fire attended.
"The woman in her 40s was brought back to safety around 9.55pm. She was detained under the Mental Health Act and taken to a place of safety.
"The A38 was closed westbound and traffic measures put in place eastbound. All restrictions were lifted by around 10.10pm."
