Did you know that any Plymouth resident has the right to put a direct question to council leader Tudor Evans OBE and receive a response in public?

It is one of the most powerful tools available in local democracy and yet many people are unaware of it.

The full council meeting is set to take place on Monday 15 September at 2pm in the Council House. All 57 councillors are expected to attend, and it is your legal right to ask a question on the day.

These questions are answered in the chamber, recorded in the minutes and live streamed, ensuring transparency and accountability at the highest level.

To submit a question you must complete the official public questions form here and email it to democraticservices@plymouth.gov.uk .

Members of the public can also direct their question to a Cabinet member, who will respond if the issue falls within their area of responsibility.

All questions must be received by the strict deadline of 5pm on Friday 5 September and any late submissions will not be considered.

To ensure transparency, Plymouth Plus is encouraging readers to copy in democratic.scrutiny@plymouthplus.co.uk when they submit their question. This will allow us to track which questions are accepted and highlight any that are not so that your rights are fully upheld.

Whether your concern is housing, transport, schools, green spaces, council tax or our city’s direction, submitting a question ensures it is placed firmly on the public record. A well written question does not just demand an answer from the leader of the council, it strengthens the very principle that elected officials serve at the will of the people.

In a time when trust in Plymouth City Council is fragile, these moments of accountability are essential. Full council may be a formal process, but it is also a reminder that democracy works best when citizens exercise their rights.

The deadline is fast approaching so send your question now. Ask it in person on the day and do your part to hold Tudor Evans to account.

People can either attend the upcoming full council meeting in person by heading to the public gallery at the Council House in good time for the 2pm start, or watch live online.
