Plymouth Hoe is set for a tense afternoon today as rival demonstrations prepare to assemble on the Promenade.
Supporters of Flag Force Plymouth and the Plymouth anti-Fascist group are due to arrive from lunchtime, with crowds expected to swell into the hundreds and the waterfront area likely to be far busier than usual.
Today’s demonstrations follow a series of heated protests in the city centre and outside Plymouth City Council’s Ballard House headquarters.
It is the first time the groups have planned to take their rallies onto the Hoe. More than 200 people have publicly indicated on Facebook that they plan to attend, so visitors should expect heavier footfall than usual and a large police presence.
