A protest march and counter protest are set to take place in Plymouth today.
Police will be using their powers to ensure safety and prevent escalation, and you could face arrest and a criminal record if you do not comply.
Police have been working closely with organisers, local partners and businesses ahead of the demonstrations to balance the right to protest with the impact it has on the wider public.
Officers are set to exercise their powers under Sections 12 and 14 of the Public Order Act, which allow them to impose legal conditions on participants.
These include the route they must follow, the areas where they can gather, and the duration of the demonstrations.
Anyone who refuses to follow these directions risks being arrested and a criminal record.
Police will also be making use of a Section 60AA order, which prevents face coverings or any item being used to conceal someone’s identity.
Anyone wearing a mask or face covering to conceal their identity could face arrest and prosecution.
Devon and Cornwall Police have stressed that their presence and actions at today's protest are to 'prevent serious disruption' so that 'everyone can continue to enjoy all that the city has to offer'.
