# Lamppost yeeted into retirement after van rammed into it in Plymouth

A lamppost has been yeeted into retirement in Plymouth this afternoon.

It comes after a Plymouth Electrical Centre van crashed into it on Caroline Place in [Millbay](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/millbay/).

The driver of the van was taken to [Derriford Hospital](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/derriford-hospital/) as a precautionary measure, but has not sustained any serious injuries.

[Devon and Cornwall Police](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/devon-and-cornwall-police/) remain at the scene this afternoon alongside National Grid and [Plymouth City Council](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/plymouth-city-council/) highways.

Workers have made the broken electricity cables to the lamppost safe, and the road will remain closed while a new lamppost is installed.

A spokesperson for [Devon and Cornwall Police](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/devon-and-cornwall-police/) told Plymouth Plus:

> "We were called at 10.40am on Monday 15 December following a report of a single vehicle collision at Caroline Place, Plymouth.

> "It was reported a vehicle collided with a wall.

> "The driver of the vehicle has been taken to hospital.

> "A cordon is in place due to damage to a lamppost."
