# Large house fire destroys home in Plymouth

A house fire has destroyed the ground floor of a home after flames ripped through the property late last night.

Emergency services were called to the property on St Margarets Road in [Plympton](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/plympton/) at 9.03pm last night, Wednesday, 25 February. 

Four fire engines from [Plympton](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/plympton/), [Crownhill](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/crownhill/) and [Greenbank](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/greenbank/) were sent to the scene alongside an ambulance.

A spokesperson for [Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/devon-and-somerset-fire-and-rescue-service/) said:

> "We were called to a house fire on St Margaret’s Road in Plymouth at 9.03pm on 25 February. Four appliances from [Plympton](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/plympton/), [Crownhill](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/crownhill/), and [Greenbank](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/greenbank/) fire stations attended.

> "On arrival, the occupant was free and clear of the building, and the ground floor was well alight. 

> "Crews used breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, two safety jets, thermal imaging cameras, and small tools to tackle and extinguish the fire.

> "A positive pressure ventilation fan was also used to clear a neighbouring property of smoke.

> "The ground floor was 100% damaged by fire, with the first floor 70% damaged by smoke and heat. 

> "One person was taken to hospital by [ambulance](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/south-western-ambulance-service/). The fire is not thought to have been started deliberately."
