Two rival protests are happening in Plymouth city centre this evening as opposing groups plan to gather on each side of Royal Parade.
Flag Force Plymouth has asked supporters to meet by the pedestrian crossing near Poundland from 5pm, encouraging people to bring St George’s Cross or Union flags and to wear flag themed clothing.
A counter protest organised by Plymouth anti fascists is expected to meet at the Sundial from 4pm before moving to Royal Parade. Their announcement describes the flag event as part of far right mobilisation and calls on people to take a stand against racism and fascism.
They say the world is at a turning point and urge supporters to act now to protect communities. The protests follow a protest held earlier this week outside Plymouth City Council’s headquarters over the removal of St George’s flags.
