What is a Domestic Violence Protection Order?
A Domestic Violence Protection Order (DVPO) is temporary emergency civil order issued by a magistrates’ court. It offers immediate protection to victims experiencing domestic abuse, even where there is insufficient evidence to charge a suspect.
A DVPO can prohibit a person from contacting the victim or entering their home for up to 28 days, providing time for the victim to access support and consider further legal options.
