Man collapses on Royal Parade as police and paramedics rush to save his life

A major emergency response was triggered in Plymouth city centre after a man collapsed on Royal Parade on Wednesday evening, 11 June.

A police cordon was set up as officers and paramedics rushed to the scene at around 9.20 pm on 11 following reports of a man suffering a suspected medical episode.

Eyewitnesses described seeing police and ambulance crews performing CPR on the man near the main bus stops. The area was quickly sealed off while emergency teams attempted to save his life.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police told Plymouth Plus:

"Officers were flagged down on Royal Parade, Plymouth, at 9.20pm on Wednesday 11 June due to concerns for the welfare of a man who suffered a suspected medical episode.
"He was taken to hospital by Ambulance crews."

The man’s current condition has been publicly confirmed as he was taken to hospital. Police maintained a presence in the area for some time while the incident was dealt with.
