Union Street was closed in both directions in the early hours of this morning after a serious assault outside The Firkin Doghouse saw police, ambulance crews and volunteer first responders rush to the scene.
A man was ‘punched’ and knocked unconscious shortly after midnight on Thursday 25 September, sparking a large emergency response. The man has been left hospitalised as a result of his injuries.
Police officers erected a scene guard around the scene of the incident in order to preserve evidence, with traffic blocked in both directions.
It was not only police and paramedics who sprang into action. A group of dedicated University of Plymouth student volunteers from Plymouth Night Patrol, raced from the city centre to provide support to the victim.
Trained in emergency medical care, the Night Patrol team worked alongside police officers to provide vital support in the chaotic minutes after the assault and prior to the arrival of ambulance crews.
