Man pleads guilty for failing to remove face mask at Plymouth flag protest

A man has pleaded guilty after failing to remove a face covering during a protest in Plymouth.

Devon and Cornwall Police implemented a section 60AA order, meaning it was unlawful to wear any item to conceal your identity at the demonstrations.

Charles Thomas, aged 30, of Apsley Road, Plymouth, appeared at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court this morning, Tuesday, January 6.

Thomas pleaded guilty to failing to remove a face mask under Section 60AA and was handed a six-month conditional discharge.

The charge relates to rival protests in Plymouth on Saturday, December 6, when groups gathered in and around the city centre, including near the Civic Centre, as part of the South West Unity March and a counter-protest.
