Man suffers ‘serious injuries’ after being hit by Smart car in Plymouth

A man has suffered ‘serious injuries’ after being hit by a car in Plymouth over the weekend.

The serious collision occurred on Crownhill Road in Crownhill and involved a black Smart car.

Emergency services were called to the crash involving a two seater car and a pedestrian at 9.55pm.

South Western Ambulance Service treated the man at the scene before he was rushed to Derriford Hospital.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision and are appealing for anyone who witnessed it or has relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

The man, aged in his 70s, remains hospitalised with potentially life threatening injuries.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said:

"Police are investigating a serious collision in Plymouth on Saturday night, 27 December.
"Emergency services were called at 9.55pm after a black Smart car was in collision with a male pedestrian on Crownhill Road, Plymouth.

"The man in his 70s sustained serious injuries and was treated by ambulance before being taken to Derriford Hospital.
"The road was closed [carriageway from West Park to Crownhill] until 1.35am on Sunday 28 December.
"Anyone who witnessed the collision or has relevant dashcam footage is asked to contact police online or by telephone on 101 quoting log number 726 of 27 December."
