Pubgoers on the Barbican were left stunned last week when multi-millionaire Wetherspoons owner Sir Tim Martin was spotted visiting the Gog and Magog.
The pub chain founder, who has an estimated net worth of more than £400million and owns over 800 venues nationwide, was seen at his Barbican branch looking like a regular punter as he mingled with customers, chatted to staff and appeared relaxed.
The 69-year-old has a long history of making unannounced visits to his pubs across the UK. Known for his outspoken views on Brexit and the hospitality industry, Martin is one of the most recognisable pub landlords in Britain.

Recently named one of the UK’s biggest taxpayers, Martin has previously revealed he enjoys dropping into his pubs to check standards and see how things are running on the ground. His Barbican visit shows he remains very hands-on with his Wetherspoons empire.
With its prime spot, The Gog and Magog is among Plymouth’s busiest pubs. Martin’s surprise appearance there gave regulars something to talk about long after he left.
