A strange circular swirl spotted in Plymouth Sound this week has sparked wild speculation, with one AI tool even suggesting it could be a submarine.
The unexplained circular formation in the water, was captured in a photograph taken near the waterfront on Plymouth Hoe this Monday, 4 August.
Nikki, who shared the image with Plymouth Plus told us:
"Took this picture yesterday at the bottom of the hoe. What is it? My AI says it’s a sub under the water?"

Plymouth is home to HMNB Devonport, the largest naval base in Western Europe. It maintains and refits the Royal Navy’s fleet of nuclear submarines, which only adds to the mystery.
The Ministry of Defence does not comment on submarine operations for security reasons. We will provide further updates on this story if we are able to establish the cause of this mysterious water formation.
