Emergency services were first seen in the Devonport Road area from around 10.52pm. An eyewitness told Plymouth Plus at the time:

"4 or 5 cop cars, a wagon, multiple mobile patrols from police and an ambulance in Stoke Village.
"Apparently some poor person has passed. The reason so many units is for welfare checks and cordoned off areas. Yet to see anywhere off limits."

By late evening, detectives and a coroners ambulance had arrived on the scene, sadly confirming that the incident had resulted in a fatality.

Police have not yet confirmed the age or gender of the person who died, and it remains unclear whether the death is being treated as suspicious.
