# Person killed after being hit by Plymouth bound train

A person has tragically died after being hit by a GWR train travelling to Plymouth today Wednesday 26 February. 

The serious incident closed busy lines between Westbury and [Swindon](https://www.wiltshire999s.co.uk/all-about/swindon/?ref=plymouthplus.co.uk) and saw several rush hour services cancelled.

According to news website [Wiltshire 999s,](https://www.wiltshire999s.co.uk/?ref=plymouthplus.co.uk) the train involved was travelling between London Paddington and Plymouth.

South Western Ambulance Service have confirmed that the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance rushed to the scene along side a land ambulance, an operations officer, and a doctor.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: 

> “Officers were called to the line near Pewsey railway station at around 2pm today (26 February) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

> Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

> The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

GWR has confirmed that delays are expected to be in place until 5pm today and are urging passengers to check before travelling.
