All eyes were on Plymouth today, Friday 22 August 2025, as BBC smash hit Beyond Paradise transformed The Apex in Derriford Business Park into a film set.
Fans watched Kris Marshall, who plays detective Humphrey Goodman, and Zahra Ahmadi, who plays DS Esther Williams, shoot a scene together outside the glass-fronted offices at the site.
Production trucks lined Brest Road as crews moved between takes, while a busy base camp operated at Marjon University a short drive away.
Actor Vincent Franklin was also seen on set. His role in the new series has not yet been announced and remains unconfirmed at the time of writing.
Today’s Plymouth shoot comes as the BBC crime drama moves into its fourth season of production, with the show’s official channels recently confirming that filming has begun on the new run. The team promised more twists in the Paraverse as the cast return to Shipton Abbott, the show’s fictional Devon town.
Beyond Paradise, a spin-off from Death in Paradise, follows Humphrey’s investigations across Devon and Cornwall and has grown a passionate audience since launching in 2023. The BBC has not announced a broadcast date for season 4, but filming is officially under way, building on the series’ established South West footprint.
The Apex is a modern office hub in the heart of Derriford Business Park, making it a versatile backdrop for location filming. Its setting beside major routes and close proximity to key amenities offer straightforward logistics for a large TV unit.
This is the second major TV production to use Plymouth as a filming base in recent weeks, following the high-profile shoot for the Bergerac reboot which transformed the University of Plymouth campus into a Jersey police HQ earlier this month. Plymouth is fast becoming a magnet for big-name TV dramas.
