Fire crews battled a large blaze in Ernesettle overnight that left a Plymouth home with 100 per cent fire damage to its ground floor and heavy smoke damage upstairs.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that several 999 calls were made just before 1am on Sunday, reporting a house on fire on Croydon Gardens.

A spokesperon for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said:
“Several 999 calls were received, reporting a house on fire in Plymouth. Three fire engines were initially sent and on arrival confirmed the front room of this property was well alight and crews requested the assistance of another two fire engines.
Crews extinguished the fire using:
- 6 breathing apparatus
- 2 hose reel jets
- 2 thermal image cameras
- 2 gas monitors
- smoke clearance fan
"There was 100 per cent fire damage to the ground floor of the property and heavy smoke damage to the second floor. The cause of the fire is under investigation.”

Emergency services remain at the scene this today as the investigation continues.
Plymouth Plus understands that everyone inside the property escaped safely, and paramedics treated the occupants at the scene. Police officers have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries in Croydon Gardens to gather witness statements and check for any CCTV footage that could assist in the investigation.
