# Plymouth man suffers serious injuries after late night attack

A man is fighting to recover in hospital after suffering serious injuries during a violent late night assault in Plymouth.

Police were called to Theatre Ope at 11.20pm on Wednesday, October 1, following reports of an altercation. Police and [ambulance](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/south-western-ambulance-service/) rushed to the scene where they found a man in his 40s badly hurt. He was taken to [Derriford hospital](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/derriford-hospital/) where he remains under care for his injuries.

A 20-year-old man from Plymouth has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remains in police custody.

A spokesperon for [Devon and Cornwall Police](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/devon-and-cornwall-police/) said:

> "We were called at 11.20pm last night \[Wednesday, October 1\] to reports of an assault on Theatre Ope where a man sustained injuries following an altercation.

> "A man in his 40s sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains.

> "A 20-year-old man from Plymouth has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He remains in police custody.

> "Enquiries remain ongoing and anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to contact police on 101 or via our website quote log 884 of 1 October."
