A Plymouth pharmacy with a long and troubling history of break-ins was targeted once again yesterday morning.

Milehouse Pharmacy on Wolseley Road was damaged, with the glass front door smashed and a police cordon in place around the premises.

Officers were seen at the scene from around 2am on Sunday morning. This is not the first time Milehouse Pharmacy has been targeted.

Burglars have previously broke in during the night, mutilating the controlled drugs cabinet and stealing methadone, diazepam, and the store’s till drawer.

Staff described the scene as “stressful” and “traumatic,” with repairs and police investigations lasting several days.

Speaking after the previous incident, pharmacist and owner of the pharmacy Helen Tugwell said:

"We had a spate of burglaries 16 to 18 years ago - I've been held at knifepoint twice. This was unusual in that I've never had a burglary where the CD cupboard was mutilated."

Sunday’s attempted burglary has reignited local concerns about pharmacy security in Plymouth – particularly at sites that store controlled medications.
