A group of inspiring women from a Thursday night pole dance class in Plymouth are embracing bald caps in a bold show of support for their friend Chloe Smith, who is living with alopecia.

The empowering fundraiser, titled “Bald for One Night Only”, is taking place on Thursday 19 June 2025, and aims to raise vital funds for Alopecia UK, a national charity supporting people affected by hair loss.

Chloe, who has recently gone completely bald, was the inspiration behind the unique event. Her fellow dancers wanted to make sure she didn’t feel alone or self-conscious in class and decided to make a statement of solidarity. The fundraiser says:

"Not only are they raising funds for AUK, it’ll be supporting Chloe who is now bald due to Alopecia.
"The girls will be wearing bald caps & embracing the bald, in return of Chloe embracing the bald and not hiding behind wigs and turbans.
"A night of laughter of fun, all whilst doing something we love and raising awareness"

The group’s touching gesture has already started gaining traction on social media, with many praising the team for normalising hair loss and turning their pole class into a safe, uplifting space for everyone.

Supporters have been quick to get involved. A message from one donor reads:

"May those heads shine just like our poles".

So far, the fundraiser has raised £100 of its £150 target through the JustGiving campaign, but donations continue to roll in as awareness grows.

Alopecia UK is a national charity that supports people affected by all types of hair loss. It provides emotional support, educational resources and peer connections to help individuals and families navigate the condition.

Every donation makes a difference and helps bring confidence and comfort to people living with alopecia across the UK.
