# Plymouth protester named and charged after ‘failing to remove a face mask’

A man has been named and charged after he failed to ‘remove a face mask’ at protests in Plymouth over the weekend.

Police implemented a section 60AA order, meaning it was unlawful to wear any item to conceal your identity at [the demonstrations](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/in-pictures-hundreds-attend-flag-march-and-anti-fascist-counter-protest-in-plymouth/).

Charles Thomas, aged 30, of Apsley Road, Plymouth, has been charged with failing to remove a face mask under Section 60AA.

Thomas has been released on bail to appear at [Plymouth Magistrates’ Court](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/courts/) on 6 January.

Another person was arrested at the protests on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

A spokesperson for [Devon and Cornwall Police](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/devon-and-cornwall-police/) told Plymouth Plus:

> "Our officers enabled two protests in Plymouth on Saturday 6 December. Prior to the event, officers liaised with organisers, local partners and businesses to ensure people could exercise their right to protest peacefully while minimising the impact on others.

> "Officers utilised a range of available powers to ensure the protests were peaceful and that any activity did not put protestors, the public or officers at risk.

> "Throughout the day officers detained and engaged with a number of individuals. Officers made two arrests in relation to the protest – one person has been charged and on released under investigation."
