A Plymouth pub was placed into lockdown on Monday night, 24 March, after reports of a man with a gun.

Armed police rushed to Tavistock Place on North Hill at around 10:50pm.

Plymouth Plus understands the pub involved was The Skiving Scholar.

Witnesses said officers told people to stay inside the pub on Tavistock Place. One person said: “We weren’t allowed to leave.”

Police said a man was seen “waving around a suspected handgun.” Armed officers arrived quickly and searched the area.

They later arrested a man in his 40s. A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall police said:

> "Armed officers attended the area and carried out searches. A man was located and found to be in possession of a drill.

> A 42-year-old man from Plymouth was arrested on suspicion of going equipped for theft. He remains in custody at this time."

No one was hurt during the incident. The man has been arrested and remains in custody.

The area is popular with students and often busy at night. Local residents say they were shocked by the police presence.

Plymouth Plus will provide further updates as the investigation continues.
