Royal Navy bomb disposal experts based in Plymouth rushed to Torquay waterfront this afternoon.
It comes after Storm Ingrid battered the waterfront and washed two items ashore that were feared to be ordnance.
Specialists from the Royal Navy's Bravo Squadron, based at HMNB Devonport, were deployed to assess the items.
Emergency cordons were put in place, and the public was urged to avoid the area while the items were assessed.
HM Coastguard rescue teams assisted Devon and Cornwall Police at the scene with cordons.
One of the objects was confirmed to be a dive cylinder, Plymouth Plus can reveal.
It comes just 10 days after a German World War Two SC50 bomb triggered a major incident after being found in Plymouth.
