This morning thousands of people gathered across the county to remember those who served and those who never returned home.
Here in Plymouth beneath a rainy November sky on the Plymouth Hoe, Armed Forces Personnel, veterans, families and schoolchildren came together to remember the fallen.
The Bishop of Plymouth The Rt Revd James Grier led the Remembrance Sunday service beside the Royal Naval Memorial which commemorates over 20,000 servicemen and women who were lost at sea and have no known grave.
The Lord Lieutenant of Devon Mr David Fursdon laid the first wreath on behalf of His Majesty The King followed by the Lord Mayor Councillor Kathy Watkin on behalf of the people of Plymouth, the Naval Base Commander and other representatives of the armed forces.
Officers from the Danish ship HDMS Esbern Snare and the Brazilian Navy joined them, symbolising the friendship and unity that remembrance inspires across nations.
All three Plymouth’s MPs Rebecca Smith, Luke Pollard and Fred Thomas attended the service.
They were joined by the Lord Mayor’s Consort Alderman Dr John Mahony, Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Chip Tofan, Councillor Steve Ricketts representing the Independents, Councillor Lee Finn representing the Conservative group and Plymouth City Council Chief Executive Tracey Lee.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.
