A child has sadly died after emergency services rushed to Wacker Quay at Antony near Torpoint at 6pm on Saturday 16 August 2025.
Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the tragedy this afternoon following last night’s major incident on the River Lynher.
As previously reported by Plymouth Plus, police, paramedics, fire crews, HM Coastguard teams, HART and two helicopters were deployed from around 6pm.
Crews worked into the night in difficult muddy conditions, with floodlights set up on the shoreline as responders from across Devon and Cornwall coordinated the effort.

Wacker Quay, on the River Lynher, is a well used spot for walkers and anglers, but its rural setting and limited access points can make rescue operations challenging.
UPDATE:

Privacy screens were erected on the foreshore and investigators were seen documenting the area as the response wound down.
Formal identification and coroner's proceedings will follow in due course. Police say the family of the child are being supported. No further details have been released at this stage.
