A Devon and Cornwall Police sergeant is due to appear before Magistrates in Plymouth next week after being charged with rape.
Sergeant James Rawlinson, aged 36 and based in Exeter, has been postal requisitioned to appear at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on Monday 23 June.
He faces one count of rape of a woman aged 16 or over, in connection with an alleged incident which reportedly took place in August 2018 in Exeter while he was off duty.

The charge was brought following an investigation into the non-recent allegation. A postal requisition means that the defendant has been served court papers by post, requiring them to attend a hearing at a specific date and time.
Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that the officer is currently suspended from duty.
In a brief statement, the force said that a serving officer is due to appear in court, and that Sgt Rawlinson remains suspended while proceedings are ongoing.
