# Police use stinger to stop suspected drink driver during Plymouth pursuit

A suspected drink driver has been arrested after a dramatic pursuit in Plymouth overnight.

Officers pursued the suspect through parts of [St Budeaux](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/st-budeaux/), with dozens of local units flocking to the area in an attempt to bring the car to a stop.

Skilled officers deployed a stinger, a type of device used by police to puncture the tyres of a fleeing vehicle, forcing it to slow down.

A nearby bus blocked alternative routes, forcing the car to drive straight through the stinger.

These efforts were successful and the car was eventually brought safely to a stop by police on Fletemoor Road.

Police arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of drink driving.

A spokesperson for [Devon and Cornwall Police](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/devon-and-cornwall-police/) told Plymouth Plus:

> "Police attended the St Budeaux area of Plymouth yesterday evening following information that a man was driving while believed to be under the influence of alcohol.

> "Local units located the vehicle and deployed a stinger device to attempt to stop the car.

> "The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Fletemoor Road and a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving."
