Highways workers spent the night painting a poppy Remembrance tribute ahead of this weekend’s commemorations.

The team of four worked through the night, carefully spray painting the red poppies that now bring a powerful splash of colour to the entrance of the Plymouth City Council building.

The striking artwork is one of several tributes across Plymouth created to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who served in the Armed Forces.

It comes as Plymouth prepares to unite for Remembrance Sunday, when veterans, serving personnel and residents will come together to remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Councillor Pauline Murphy, Armed Forces Champion, said:

"As a proud military city, the remembrance commemorations are always a poignant time for Plymouth.
"Each year we demonstrate in a number of ways our deep respect and gratitude for the bravery and sacrifice of those who have served and continue to serve for our country.
"This year our Remembrance commemorations include the tributes in front of the Council House and the poppy wave outside the Guildhall, which we hope will prompt those passing by to take a moment to reflect and remember those who have given their lives in defending our nation.”

The tribute will remain in place throughout the weekend, offering a heartfelt reminder of Plymouth’s enduring connection to the Armed Forces and the importance of never forgetting those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
