# Rescue mission launched after vessel runs aground in River Tamar

A rescue mission was launched after a vessel ran aground in the River Tamar this afternoon (18 August).

The vessel ran aground near the Weston Mill Lake area of [Devonport](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/devonport/) Dockyard at around 2.14pm.

An emergency response was quickly launched, with numerous [Ministry of Defence](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/ministry-of-defence/) Police boats on scene within minutes.

[HM Coastguard](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/hm-coastguard/) also sent the [RNLI](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/tag/rnli/) all-weather lifeboat, which deployed its Y-class lifeboat after arriving in the vicinity of the emergency.

One person was stranded on the vessel and, thankfully, was safely taken to shore.
