Two rival protests are set to unfold outside of Plymouth City Council’s HQ at Ballard House today, Monday 1 September 2025, over their removal of St George’s flags.
Supporters of Flag Force Plymouth plan to gather at 1pm to “raise flags outside of Ballard House” and encourage people to bring St George’s Cross or Union flags.
Organisers say the event will be “peaceful and lawful”, ask people not to cover their faces, to avoid violence, aggression or hate speech, and to remain on the public footpath.
They say free flags and patriotic merchandise will be available for anyone showing support and add that they want to “show Plymouth City Council that the people of this city are proud of our nation”.
A local anti-fascist group has called a counter protest at the same location from midday, claiming the flag event is backed by far-right groups and says such actions should be “outnumbered, confronted, and demoralised”.
