Another weekend of tense demonstrations is planned in Plymouth, with Raise the Flag and anti-fascist protests set to happen on the Hoe this Sunday (26 October).
Organisers on both sides say they intend for their demonstrations to be peaceful and both are encouraging supporters to attend.
Flag Force Plymouth initially organised their demonstration to assemble on the Plymouth Hoe Promenade from 1pm. The group has invited people to bring national flags and wear patriotic clothing, and says free flags and merchandise will be handed out to attendees.
In response, the Plymouth anti-Fascist group has organised a counter protest, set to gather an hour earlier at the cafe on the Hoe Promenade from 12pm. They say they intend to counter what they describe as ‘far-right mobilisation’, and urge people to challenge ‘racism and division’.
The new protests come after a series of tense demonstrations in the city centre and outside Plymouth City Council’s Ballard House headquarters. It is the first time the demonstrations have been planned to take place on the Hoe.
Over 200 people have registered their intentions to attend the events on Facebook and people should expect the Hoe to be busier than usual.
Potential disruption is excpeted on nearby routes and public spaces during the demonstrations. The Plymouth Plus team will be providing live coverage from the Hoe on Sunday as events unfold.
