A murder investigation is underway after a missing man was found dead in a Plymouth marina.
Police dive teams recovered his body from the water at King Point Marina in Millbay this afternoon following overnight searches.
Formal identification has yet to take place, however Drew Perham’s family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Drew, aged 24, was reported missing on Saturday, 24 January, after he failed to return home from a night out in Plymouth on Friday evening.
His disappearance prompted a desperate appeal from his family, who said his sudden disappearance was “highly out of character”.
Following initial enquiries, police confirmed that a 19-year-old man was arrested earlier on Sunday on suspicion of attempted murder. He has since been further arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
Detective Superintendent James Dowler said the investigation had progressed rapidly, with a significant police presence remaining in the Millbay area as enquiries continue. He said:
“This investigation has been very fast paced, and the community will be aware of the significant policing presence that has been in the Millbay area as our enquiries have progressed throughout the day. This will continue in the coming days.
“Formal identification is yet to take place, however, all of our thoughts are with Drew’s family and friends at this unbelievably difficult time.
“I would like to ask people to avoid speculating about this case – we are in the early stages of our investigation to establish the full circumstances and online speculation in particular, is not helpful.
“Anyone who has information which may assist the police investigation is asked to please get in touch and report it. We are particularly interested in people who may have been in the Millbay area between 1am and 4am during the early hours of Saturday January 24th.”

In a statement released this evening, Drew’s family said:
“We have unfortunately received the most horrendous news. Our beautiful and wonderful Drew Perham has cruelly been taken from us.
“We appreciate all the support and messages, but right now we need the time to navigate this together.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Devon and Cornwall Police on 101 or via the force website, quoting reference 50260019981.
Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
A heavy police presence and cordons remain in place at the marina. Follow our live updates here as the investigation continues.
