A Plymouth teenager is due in court today (Friday 4 July) charged with a series of offences after a pedestrian was left critically injured in a serious city centre collision.

Emergency services were called to Exeter Street shortly before 6pm on Wednesday 2 July following reports of a crash involving a moped and a pedestrian at a busy pedestrian crossing.

The pedestrian, a man in his 20s, remains in hospital in a critical condition after being struck by a grey Piaggio scooter. The road was closed for around seven hours as specialist forensic collision investigators examined the scene.

Plymouth Plus previously revealed that the scooter involved [was not taxed, insured or MOT-certified](https://www.plymouthplus.co.uk/pedestrian-fighting-for-life-after-crash-with-untaxed-uninsured-moped-in-plymouth-city-centre/) at the time of the collision. The vehicle was impounded at the scene by police.

The pedestrian was using a pelican crossing when he was hit. The incident has raised serious concerns about road safety and illegal vehicle use in the city, particularly involving uninsured and untaxed mopeds on busy urban routes.
