Emergency services were called to the waters off Drake's Island yesterday evening after an inflatable dinghy carrying three people began taking on water.
The incident sparked a prompt response from both HM Coastguard and Plymouth RNLI, with assistance also provided by a passing vessel.
HM Coastguard received a 999 call just after 8.40pm reporting that an inflatable dinghy with three people onboard was taking on water off Drake's Island.
Fortunately, a local boat responded promptly, reaching the stricken dinghy before the situation worsened.
The crew of the boat took all three individuals onboard and brought them safely back to shore, where they were met by the coastguard rescue team.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard told Plymouth Plus:
"HM Coastguard received a 999 call just after 8:40 this evening (22 May), reporting an inflatable dinghy with three people onboard was taking on water off Drake's Island.
"Plymouth Coastguard Rescue Team and Plymouth RNLI Lifeboat were sent, and a message for assistance to vessels in the area was broadcast.
"A local vessel took the three people onboard and brought them safely to shore, where they were met by the coastguard rescue team.
"All persons were safe and were able to make their own way home."
