Tragedy as man killed after van crashes into wall of Plymouth home

A Plymouth neighbourhood has been left in shock after a man was tragically killed when his van crashed into the wall of a residential property yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Southway Lane at around 2.30pm on Wednesday, 23 July, following reports of a serious collision involving a white Renault Master van.

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed a man in his 40s was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. The road was immediately closed off as officers from the Roads Policing Team launched a serious collision investigation, assisted by drone units capturing aerial footage.

More than 10 police vehicles, two fire engines, two ambulances and the Devon Air Ambulance attended the incident.

Police are now appealing for anyone with dash-cam footage or any other relevant information that might assist their investigation to come forward.

Witnesses or anyone with footage are urged to contact Devon and Cornwall Police through their website or by calling 101, quoting log number 472 of 23/07/2025.

The road remained closed late into the evening to allow a thorough serious collision investigation of the scene, with authorities extending the cordon for investigative purposes.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said:

"We are appealing for witnesses and footage following a fatal road traffic collision in Southway Lane, Plymouth
"Officers were called at around 2.30pm on Wednesday 23 July to the collision which involved a white Renault Master.
"Sadly, a man in his 40s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
"The road was closed while an investigation was carried out.
"Officers from the Roads Policing Team would like to thank the public for their patience whilst the road was closed and give thanks to those who gave first aid at the scene.
"Anyone with any relevant information and dash-cam footage which may assist the investigation is asked contact us via our website or by calling 101 quoting log 472 of 23/07/2025."
